Sip & Slippers: Private Reception for UHAA Distinguished Honoree Rushion McDonald

Greetings, On Friday May 1st, University of Houston Black Alumni Association (UHBAA) gathered at the private residence of Lloyd Gite, owner of The Gite Gallery in Houston’s historic Third Ward to host a private reception for Rushion McDonald, University of Houston Alumni Association’s Distinguished Honoree and Honorary Chair of the 25th Annual Scholarship & Awards Celebration for the Black Alumni Association. During the event, recipients of the Rushion & Cicely McDonald scholarship spoke to Rushion regarding how his $5,000 annual scholarships have affected their lives and made it easier for them to succeed without the financial obstacle of affording college. Mr. McDonald not only provides annual scholarships to students but also comes to Houston for events to establish and maintain long term relationships with his scholarship recipients. UHBAA past president Vonda Mays thanked Rushion for agreeing to establish a long term relationship with the University of Houston Black Alumni Association and continually provide scholarship opportunities to African American students at the University of Houston. Among those in attendance include Rushion & Cicely McDonald scholarship recipients Fre’Etta Brooks, Maleeya Coleman, and Aisha Fields, past president Vonda Mays, Director of the Rushion & Cicely McDonald Scholarship Carolyn McDonald Burnley, Director of UH Center for Diversity & Inclusion Niya Blair, Tristen & CC Sutton, Chrystal Rivers, Brittany Lewis, the Board of Directors of the University of Houston Black Alumni Association (UHBAA), as well as various supporters, alumni, and faculty/staff of the University of Houston.
